Temporary – Alternate Directions to Camp 5/10-15 2012

N Shingle road will be closed from 9 AM Thursday May 10th 2012 through around 5 PM Tuesday May 15th 5 AM Thursday May 17th 2012, due to road construction. (updated 5/15 – due to an underground spring that needed to be re-directed)

For groups that are meeting us at Camp between those dates (Forest Lake and those on the Youth Pastor Retreat), and ONLY those groups, you might need to take these alternate directions if you were coming to camp via Sacramento and Highway 50.

Note: Forest Lake – you probably are coming to camp via Auburn – in which case you can follow the normal directions to camp with no changes.

If you are meeting us elsewhere (Like Gold Bug Park), use the normal directions to Gold Bug park (they are unaffected). We will give you directions home before you leave.

To Avoid the Road closure of N Shingle Road/Green Valley Rd just before Lotus Road:

  1. Highway 50 East towards S. Lake Tahoe
  2. Take Exit 41 Greenstone Road and turn Right onto Greenstone Road – Travel 1.1 miles.
  3. Turn Left onto Green Valley Road - Travel 2.8 miles
  4. Turn Right onto Lotus Road - Travel 6.7 miles
  5. Turn Left onto Highway 49 - Travel 0.7 miles
  6. Go Straight at Marshall Road stop sign – Travel 1 mile
  7. One Mile  past the Marshall Road stop sign, look for Rock-N-Water’s sign on your Left
  8. Enter and follow the signs to our parking area – You Made It!
Note: These alternate directions only add 3 miles to your travel.

God, Gold, and Meteorites?

Yep, that’s right, Rock-N-Water might now be home to some fresh meteorite fragments courtesy of the the Sutter’s Mill Meteorite.

On Sunday April 22nd at 7:51 AM a fireball (along with sonic booms) was seen over northern California. Small fragments have been found near Sutter’s Mill (just a couple miles from camp), and the fallout path is estimated to extend from Coloma to Cronan Ranch – putting Rock-N-Water right in the middle of things.

It will be interesting to see if our 49er Fun campers find any interesting “rocks” while panning for gold.

Prayer Requests: A week of sun and rain?

Dear Prayer Team,

That I may be still and know that you are God…”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16

Looks like we’ll see the full spectrum of California weather this week. Here are some prayer requests from this week’s groups:

  • Please pray for nice weather, as well as peace and unity among students and parents. Pray that God would help our students to overcome differences with each other and draw closer to God.
  • Last year we had an amazing trip, full of wonderful experiences. I’m praying that your staff can live up to the expectations established by last year’s staff. Thank you for all you do.
  • Pray for tender, open hearts to the voice of Jesus, safety and good health during the trip, and pray for one student who’s parents are going through a hard time.
  • Please pray for responsible chaperones who are eager to participate. And please pray for myself (the teacher), this is going to be my first overnight field trip!
Thank you for your prayers, and as always, please keep this year’s staff in your prayers.

Prayer requests for the week of April 9th

Prayer Team,

Last week - It was a great kick off to our 49er Fun program. Staff hit the ground running at full speed, and our first trip left refreshed and encouraged from quite time devotionals, and personal challenges to be careful that they don’t let the things in their life become more valuable than God. Oh, and they also learned a lot about the California gold rush.

This Week -  We’ve got a bunch of different groups coming up the second half of the week, including a bunch of homeschoolers. Here are some specific requests they asked us to pray for them about:

  • That our students (and parents) would have receptive hearts and minds to the messages you’ll be sharing with us.
  • Pray that everything goes smoothly on the trip, and that our parents have fun playing in the rain.
  • Please pray that this trip will provide opportunities for me and my son to bond in ways we haven’t been able to before.

Thank you for keeping the campers, staff, and the ministry of Rock-N-Water in your prayers.

Improved website navigation for Spring and Fall trips

Over the years, many church youth groups and schools that have taken advantage of the great weather that California affords us to plan their outdoor adventures during the Spring or Fall. While our 2011 website redesign made it much easier for leaders to see what months/seasons a particular adventure was doable, they still had to get to an adventure before they could found that out. For example, if you wanted to go rafting in the Fall, you would have to find the Rafting page, which was inside of “Summer Adventures” – not a very logical pathway.

However, we are now happy to announce, that we have redesigned the main navigation bar to include a “Trips By Season” option that will let those interested in non-summer trips quickly find the pages and adventures that are of interest to them.

We hope you like it.
